Looking for ways to gain those
required recertification points? Attending the annual
Certification Conference
mentioned above is one excellent way to earn points. You
could also
consider attending two other annual international events, the Professional
Education Conference (PEC) and the International Convention and Education Forum.
The Certification Conference and PEC normally offer 12-16
recertification points; and
an average for Convention would be 10 points, depending on
which education
sessions you attend (and you can earn even more if
you attend the pre- and post-
convention sessions).
In addition, you may gain points
by attending chapter educational programs (make
sure your chapter program
chair or certification chair is submitting those programs to
the
Certification Department ahead of time so they can give you a recertification
certificate). You can also earn credits by attending educational courses provided by
your employer, by seminar companies such as National Seminars, and by
attending
courses provided by your local college or academic institution.
Remember, to qualify
for recertification points, the course content needs to
relate to the categories tested
on the CPS and CAP exams and each educational
course must be at least one-hour
in length.
If you can't take time off work
to attend educational programs, consider self-study
programs, such as the
OPTIONS program available from IAAP Headquarters.
Consider
showing the benefits of this program to your employer. By investing in you
and your worth to the organization for only $199, you gain a full year's worth of
valuable
education, and your employer gains by having a better trained, more
knowledgeable
employee. You can also point out to your employer that by
providing the
OPTIONS
program, they are helping you gain 24 of the
required 90 recertification points.
Additional information on the
recertification process is available in the
Recertification
Brochure.
